Island Rescue Organization, Inc. (IRO) is a Philippine SEC registered nonprofit animal rescue organization based in the province of Cebu, Philippines. IRO is associated with the Friends for the Protection of Animals, a USA-based 501(c) tax exempt non-profit organization. Founded in February, 2010 by a handful of animal lovers, IRO's members and core volunteers include lawyers, doctors, students, nurses, IT workers, retirees, chefs, teachers, foreigners, Filipinos, the wealthy, the poor: a cross-section of the Cebu population at large, all united by their love of animals. IRO (from the Cebuano word meaning "dog") is the first such animal rescue organization in the province of Cebu (Central Visayas). IRO currently has chapters in Catbalogan, Samar (Eastern Visayas): IRO-Samar: Salamat Animal Shelter; and in Kalibo, Aklan (Western Visayas): the Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (AARRC).
