Adoption Proccess & Fees

1. Download and read our IRO Adoption Contract. A sample contract may be found in the list of downloadable files at the right. You must agree to the terms and conditions stated in this contract prior to applying to adopt from IRO.

Note: individual contracts may be altered in their details according to the needs of particular animals. For example, if an adult dog cannot be spayed or neutered at this time due to medical reasons, the contract for that individual dog will be changed to specify when it shall be spayed/neutered. You will be given an opportunity to read and agree to your actual contract prior to signing.

2. Download, print, sign and submit your adoption application. You can download it by right-clicking on the IRO Adoption Application.doc file on the right and choosing "Save As" or "Save Link As" (depending on your web browser.) If you have access to a scanner you may scan the signed application, save it as a file on your computer, then submit it via email.

3. Upon acceptance of your adoption application by IRO, we will work with you to provide the best match of pet to guardian, based on the animal's temperament, training and level of energy. This is to ensure that you and your new friend may have years of happiness together. During this step in the adoption process, IRO volunteers will visit applicants' homes to assess the "overall conduciveness" to having a pet, and to ensure that our health and safety requirements are met (i.e. a fenced yard.) As we have many applicants, and our volunteers' spare time is limited, this may take several days or even weeks so please be patient.

Note: potential adopters within Cebu province will be given priority: however, we will gladly consider adopters in other, nearby provinces if they are willing to pay for our volunteers' transportation and lodging expenses in performing the inspection of your home. Be advised that doing so will not guarantee your approval as an IRO adopter, and that these payments are non-refundable. Those nearer to Aklan or Samar may wish to contact the Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre or Salamat Animal Shelter respectively, rather than adopting from IRO Cebu.

4. Once this match has been made and agreed to, and prior to taking receipt of your pet, you will be asked to sign the adoption contract and to pay an adoption fee. This fee is to help reimburse IRO for some of our expense in providing medical care, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, training/socialization, and feeding the animal while under our care. It also ensures that only adopters who are serious about wanting a pet and who will care for it properly will receive an IRO companion animal:

Schedule of Adoption Fees
1. Aspin or Aspin-mix dog or puppy.............P250
2. Purebred or non-Aspin dog or puppy.......P1500
3. Cat or kitten (any breed)..........................P250

Note: while the adoption fee for non-Aspin dogs and puppies may seem expensive it is actually a just fraction of the price charged by most breeders and private individuals, representing a potential savings of thousand of pesos!

All IRO companion animals will be spayed or neutered, if old enough and if medical considerations allow, and will be fully vaccinated and dewormed prior to being placed in their new homes. Those that have not yet been spayed or neutered may be scheduled to be brought back to IRO for that service at no additional cost. Every IRO companion animal comes with a Certificate of Health, a vaccination record, and an Adoption Starter Kit (courtesy of Royal Canin.) Again, this represents a potential savings in veterinary costs vs. buying or adopting an animal from elsewhere.

5. IRO volunteers will schedule occasional follow-up visits to your home to ensure that your pet is being properly cared for (and also to visit the animal!)

Thank you for adopting from IRO.
