I know of a business or tradesman that sells dog meat. What can I do?
Scenario: you know of a restaurant, carinderia, butcher's shop or street vendor that sells dog meat; or about people that collect, procure, raise or transport dogs for commercial slaughter. You want to help put a stop to it but you don't know what to do.
1. Call the Philippine National Police (PNP) Dog Meat Trade Hotline number at (02) 723-0401 through 0420. PNP, among other law enforcement agencies, is charged with enforcing the Rabies Control Act and takes allegations of trading in dog meat very seriously. As when contacting the police for any allegations of animal abuse, note the name of the person you're speaking to, and also the case number.
2. Call the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) Dog Meat Hotline at 045-615-0895, or text them at 0920-983-5109. AKF has a Memorandum of Understanding with PNP wherein AKF investigators work undercover to gather evidence and file charges that may lead to the arrest and conviction of dog meat traders. Also note the name of the person at AKF that you're speaking to.
3. (Optional) Follow up by also contacting IRO via our Contacts page on this website. Be sure to present the names of the people you spoke to as well as the PNP case number. We will in turn follow up by contacting AKF and/or PNP and ensure that the case is investigated and that, if warranted, arrests and prosecution take place.
Note: in cases where you see a private individual or group of people butchering or eating a dog, report it to 117 immediately. See here for complete instructions.
