Andrea

This rescue just occurred April 11th, 2010. A Good Samaritan posted the following on Island Rescue Organization's Facebook page:

HELP! I'm searching for ANYBODY who can rescue a certain stray dog. The dog has been left on the side of the street (along F. Cabahug, Mabolo) I've been curious as to why the dog never moves from the same spot, only to find out, upon closer inspection, that the dog has been blinded. I'm not sure if it was caused physically or as a result of a disease that resulted from maltreatment but this is URGENT!!! I cannot take in the dog, as I cannot be sure of rabies and my parents will definitely NOT approve, but If anybody can refer me to anyone who can rescue this animal I will be very happy to help. For now, the best I can do for this dog is to feed it with whatever I have (before I came along, it had nothing to eat) but I know this is only a temporary solution. The animal needs to be taken to a vet as soon as possible! Please help!

IRO's rescue team was contacted and sprang into action. They found the dog cowering on a grass strip next to the street, eating the grass to survive, afraid to move due to the noise of the nearby traffic. She is now under the foster care of one of our rescue team members, Xemenia Cuyos, where she's being fed and taken care of.

Update: Andrea is doing fine, eating and drinking well. She even went for a quick walk around her foster mom's back yard. She's still reluctant to let people touch her: it will tale time to build trust and to rehabilitate her, after all she's been through.
